UNIVERSAL RECORD CARE - TIPS AND HINTS

while listening to a Sheffield Labs Direct to disc LP one day, a leaflet fell out
and has some great tips on caring for vinyl.
And some real world words about some products that people use
but really do not need to.

Here are the
RECORD CARE RECOMMENDATIONS

(and they are very good simple tips that will save you much hassel and money)

~ Over the years many of our customers ahve asked us for recommendations for proper record care.
Because of the tremendous number of record care products now available, it is not possible for us
to evaluate each one extensively.
However, there are certain basic guidelines which we do recommend to our customers.

SPRAY ON RECORD PRODUCTS.
Products designed to preserve, lubricate, or reduce static on a record might seem to be beneficial.
However, widely varying results are encountered due to inconsistencies in application, chemical incom-
patibilities, and other variables.
We suggest that any customer interested in such products experiment with them with great care.
We have never tried a product of this type which we did not feel produced some degree of deleterioius effect
on SHEFFIELD LAB records. Use of any of these products will VOID the guarantee.

RECORD CLEANERS.
There are a variety of record cleaning systems which use brushes that appear to do a reasonable job of
removing foreign material from a record's surface and grooves. Audiophiles generally have their own favorite
record cleaning method and with many systems to select from we do not make any specific
recommendations. (Groove*Yard*Records recommends manual hand washing with fine brush and bio-soap)

STYLUS CLEANERS.
While there are many stylus cleaners available, the one we have used with excellent results for years is the
DISCWASHER SC Stylus Cleaning brush. MIcroscopic examination has shown even the most delicate stylus assemblies are in no way damaged by the use of this stylus brush when used in accordance witht he instructions. The presences of foreign material on the stylus is the number one cause of record wear and distortion. The use of DISCWASHER stylus brush is recommended before teh playing of EVERY record.

CARTRIDGE ALIGNMENT.
The DENNESEN GEOMETRIC SOUNDTRACKTOR is an alignment protractor that allows you to easily and precisely set your cartridge's overhang and angle. You have probably never heard your
records at their optimum. Few tonearms when set up to the manufacturer's specs, agree with the SOUNDTRACKTOR. Our tests have shown that the SOUNDTRACKTOR is correct and the difference can be STARTLING.
